What if your dinner flew over traffic? Zipline and @Uber are bringing 1M drone deliveries to the US

A partnership like Uber’s with Zipline won’t eliminate delivery drivers because Uber is explicitly building a hybrid network that still relies on human couriers alongside drones and sidewalk robots. According to Uber’s own statements, drones are meant to handle specific types of deliveries—mainly lightweight, fast-turnaround orders—while drivers continue to manage larger, complex, urban, or weather‑sensitive deliveries. This means drones supplement the workforce rather than replace it, shifting some low‑value trips away from drivers but preserving the need for human labor across most delivery scenarios.

Drone delivery will first roll out in Dallas and Houston, with expansion planned into dozens of additional U.S. cities where Zipline already operates. Other early markets mentioned include Phoenix, parts of Texas, and Ohio, before scaling nationwide. | Zipline | August 17, 2026
